In our last few blogs, we’ve been talking about fire pit tables and all that you need to know about them! A fire pit table is a great way to better enjoy your patio in Phoenix this fall and winter. Not only is it festive, but it is also great way to stay cozy warm, and maybe even enjoy some campfire treats such as ooey-gooey delicious s’mores. Generally speaking, no matter your space or personal style, there is a fire pit table that can work for your patio. However, there are some things that you must know before you get too far in the planning process for your fire pit. Today, we are going to go over some fire pit safety tips.
Should be 10 feet from your home or other structures.
Getting your fire pit in a safe location is crucial not only for your safety, but also for the care of your home and backyard. Having your fire pit too close to your home, shed, or other structure can cause a fire and do damage to your paint and your home’s siding. Having your fire pit ten feet away from your home should be sufficient to avoid damage or an accident. However, some cities require you to install your fire pit even farther away. Be sure to check on your city’s building code before installing a fire pit.
Don’t put a wood-burning fire pit on a deck.
This point may seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how easy it is to forget about common sense. If you have a wood deck or are planning to put one in, it’s best to skip a wood-burning fire pit. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a fire pit table! Instead, opt for a gas-burning one. Gas-burning fire pits normally don’t have sparks which are usually the culprits of accidental fires.
Educate your kids.
Kids can often be the other culprits for accidental fires. Not only is fire mesmerizing which makes it tempting to play with, put if kids don’t know how dangerous fire is, they may be more apt to leave a fire burning and worse yet hurt themselves. Educate your kids on general fire safety and how to safely operate a fire pit table.
Keep a water or fire extinguisher nearby.
Even if you do everything right and take all the necessary precautions, it is always best to have water or, even better yet, a fire extinguisher nearby. Having a working fire extinguisher can help a minor accident stay minor. Protect your home and your family by having a fire safety plan in place and other necessary safety precautions.
